Planning task

Route planning on real roads.

Route planning decides which vehicle or person serves which jobs, in which order. Optimized means: time windows and skills are kept, travel times come from the real road network, and the plan is recalculated when a job is added or cancelled.

Rules in the model

What the plan keeps, without anyone checking by hand.

Time windowsAgreed arrival times, opening hours, fixed appointments and waiting time on site.
SkillsWho may do which job, equipment in the vehicle, familiar faces for customers.
VehiclesCapacity, refrigeration, range and charging for electric vehicles, start and end at the depot.
Working timeShifts, breaks, driving and rest times.
Road networkTravel times from the real road network, not as the crow flies.

From practice

One project, as it actually went.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you use real travel times?

Yes. Routes and travel times come from a road network such as OpenStreetMap, not from straight lines.

Is route planning available as a ready-made service?

Yes. The Timefold SaaS models offer field service and delivery routing as a service. When your rules go further, we build a model of your own.

Can the plan change during the day?

Yes. New jobs, cancellations and delays are planned in without turning the whole day upside down.
